چکیده

OBJECTIVE: To analyse whether prealbumin could be a new biomarker for predicting mortality in severe COVID-19 patients. STUDY DESIGN: An observation study. PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: Intensive care units (ICU) of Sakarya University Training and Research Hospital, Sakarya, Turkey, from October 2020 to December 2020. METHODOLOGY: The data 149 patients, who were admitted the ICU collected analysed retrospectively. Routine blood samples all patients at time admission ICU; 102 with mortal course 47 non-mortal included obtained these analyzed biostatistics programme.  Results: median age was 68 years; while 94 them males (63.1%) 55 females (36.9%). Median levels potassium (K) (p=0.04), uric acid (p=0.001), C-reactive protein (CRP) (p=0.004), procalcitonin (PCT) (p<0.001) significantly higher level (p=0.002) lower deceased group. cut-off found as 0.085 g/L (p=0.002). Further analysis revealed that risk 2.193 times more <0.085 (Odds Ratio (OR): 2.193, 95% CI: 1.084-4.434). CONCLUSION: As result this study, it have mortality. It showed can useful COVID-19. Key Words: Prealbumin, COVID-19, Mortality, Prognostic biomarkers, Severe disease.

A Narrative Review on Evaluation of Hypercoagulability State in Severe Covid-19 Patients with Background Risk Factors

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) can induce coagulopathy at the base of sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC), which is an important cause of death in these patients. Cytokine storm causes imbalance in coagulation and fibrinolytic system. A combination of hypercoagulability state, decrease or inhibition of fibrinolysis and endotheliopathy causes thromboembolic events. Underlying diseases such as diab...

PITX1 is a reliable biomarker for predicting prognosis in patients with oral epithelial dysplasia

Paired-like homeodomain 1 (PITX1) genes are essential in human development. In the present study, PITX1 protein expression was evaluated in human normal oral mucosa, oral epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), with the aim of examining the expression patterns of these critical genes during the multi-stage transformation of oral epithelial dysplasia to OSCC. PITX1 and Ki-6...

ROR1 expression as a biomarker for predicting prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer

There is a lack of reliable prognosis biomarker in the current treatment of colorectal cancer. The receptor-tyrosine-kinase-like orphan receptor 1 (ROR1) is overexpressed and associated with poor prognosis in certain tumors. This study aimed to explore the prognostic significance of ROR1 in colorectal cancer. Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry showed that the expression of ROR1 in c...
